In an endeavor to eradicate environmental injustices, government policymakers have drafted legislation and implemented policies that integrate environmental justice into governmental agency rules and regulations for decades. While the purpose is admirable, the directions on how to put these rules into effect have been mostly ignored.
The Memorandum of Understanding on Environmental Justice and Executive Order 12898 were signed by eleven US government agencies.
