Instructions:
This course examines the relationship between money ethics and ecology (the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change) through public banking and finance. What should or should not have been done to mitigate the 2020 pandemic in light of moral theory; the nature of money and public banking; how money motivates and corrupts us; collective and individual responsibility for climate change; whether we should work less or otherwise reduce economic growth; the circular economy; and our ethical relationship to our environment are among the topics discussed.
Paper with six pages
Instructions: Write a six-page essay on one of the following topics (Times New Roman, 12pt type, double-spaced, one-inch margins, headers, footers).
As a general rule, four pages should be dedicated to a thorough and sympathetic presentation of the relevant positions or arguments. Your critical or reflective engagement with the relevant positions or arguments should take up about two pages.
Exposition and critical engagement are two different things that can happen at the same time. However, make sure that your most important discussion spans at least two pages. Both the expositional and critical tasks are critical.
Make use of relevant examples and quotations. Organize the flow of ideas with care. Strive for clarity above all else.
1.Explain how Thompson explains the “switch” and “bridge” versions of the Trolley Problem. Explain and evaluate Thompson’s viewpoint, and then make your own case for or against utilitarianism. Consider and respond to any potential objections.
2.Should coronavirus vaccines be available on a free market in addition to the current priority system? Make a utilitarian case for it, as well as a non-utilitarian case against it. Is there a case for it that isn’t utilitarian? Make a case for yourself. Make your principled foundation clear. Make sure to consider and respond to any potential objections.
3. How can a government distribute its money currency to the general public? Why, from a moral standpoint, should a government accept its own money in payment of fees, fines, or taxes that are legally owed to it? What would a utilitarian say in response to this question? What would a non-response utilitarian’s be? Give examples of why you believe one answer is superior to the others.
