Essay on Self-Talk and Internal Dialogue
On pages 284-285 of your textbook’s chapter 14, read about identifying self-talk. Now that you know how to spot self-talk, it’s time to put what you’ve learned into practice.
Record your own self-talk that you regard as negative, dysfunctional, or troublesome in a journal for three days this week.
Include the conditions in which these thoughts happened, as well as how they affected your feelings and conduct, when recording your self-talk.
Review your journal at the end of the three days and reflect on your experience.
Examine the circumstances that led to negative self-talk.
Did you notice any changes in your emotions or conduct after you started self-talking?
Part two
Read pages 286-296 and then undertake your own study on strategies to control self-talk and alter skewed thinking, using at least one other scholarly source.
Then, explain about three approaches that you think would help you reduce or change your negative self-talk and/or skewed thinking habits.
Explain why you chose the tactics you did and why you think they’ll work.
