Essay on the Knapps Relational Development Model
Stages of Relational Development (Activity 8)
For each of the stages in Knapp’s Model of Relational Development from Chapter 8 in the “Modules Section,” you will briefly explain a past or current relationship. An acquaintance, coworker, family member, friend, or romantic partner could be
the relationship you pick. You don’t have to utilize the same relationship for each stage; you can use a different one for each.
It is not necessary for your responses to be extensive. They can be as short as a few phrases. Here’s an example: “Experimenting is the second stage. When my wife and I initially met, we were both in the testing period. I recall getting to know
each other and trying to figure out what we had in common. It was exhilarating and a little nerve-wracking at first, but it turned out to be a terrific stage for us in the end.”
You are free to write a little more if you wish, but it is not required. You’ll have one week to finish the activity. It will close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday.
For each of the stages below, give an example from a relationship you’ve had (descriptions for each step may be found in Chapter 8 in the Modules Section):
Experimentation is the second stage.
Stage 3: Increased Intensity
Bonding (Stage 5)
Stagnation (Stage 8)
Stage 9: Preventing
Stage ten is the final stage.
