The student will prepare a reflection paper of at least 1,000 words (approximately 4 pages) on lessons in discipleship and spiritual formation from the early church after reading Smither, Augustine as Mentor. The following items should be included in the paper:
A concise (100-word) introduction and thesis statement (what the student will aim to do in the paper).
A 400-word (about 2-page) review of Augustine’s and other church fathers’ discipleship practices.
A 400-word (about 2-page) perspective on how early Christian spiritual formation concepts and practices could apply today in various ministries (i.e. training pastors and church leaders, discipling adults, youth, children, international students, etc.). It is suggested that the learner consider his or her own particular ministry.
A succinct summary of the reflection paper (100 words).
References to Augustine as Mentor should be footnoted in the reflection paper, which should follow the current Turabian structure. The rubric document (attached) outlines the criteria for grading the paper.
The Discipleship Reflection Paper is due on Sunday of Module/Week 5 at 11:59 p.m. (ET).
