Gender Documentary Discussion
Gender Documentary Assignment
Find an Educational Documentary, from a reputable source, (NOT A LECTURE OR FICTIONAL NARRATIVE) that examines research on a cognitive topic covered in the Text or Canvas Discussions. The film needs to be at least 45 minutes in duration. Students may also substitute 3 T.E.D. Talks examining a specific topic instead of picking one longer documentary film. If you select the TED talks you must answer all 4 questions for each of the 3 talks.
-You can find quality documentaries via: Netflix, Curiosity Stream, Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus, Vimeo.com and YouTube.
Write a summary of the documentary in your own words (no more than 6 typed, double-spaced pages). In your summary SEPARATELY answer the following questions, in this order:
What was the film about? Explain the topic covered and how the film analyzed the core material (interviews, conducted research, reviewed research, etc…). (1/2 page)
Briefly review the film, was it effective? Why or why not? (1/2 page)
List, in detail, 5 facts that you learned from the film in bullet point format (at least 3 sentences per fact). (1-3 pages)
You should find independent research and fact check the information in the film.
If any of facts in the film are too simplistic or underdeveloped use outside research to supplement (i.e., flesh out) the information.
Conduct further research on the topic covered in the film and summarize at least 2 facts or pieces of information (e.g., theories, research studies, concepts, phenomena, etc…) that were not examined in the film but could have been. In other words, what information would you add to the film, either as an update, extension, or correction? Find, use and cite peer-based journal article(s) to support your assertions. (1-2 pages)
Format Requirements:
The paper should be roughly 4 to 5 pages in length. It should include a cover page with your full name, the date, and the film reference (see below). Note: the cover page does not count toward the page limit. Papers must be typed (Times New Roman font) and double spaced, with 1-inch margins (for top, bottom, left and right).
You need to provide a reference for the film on the title page to your paper.
