BIOTECHNOLOGY
This semester you have studied many of the basics of biology. From biochemistry to cells to metabolism to genetics, you have gained much knowledge about what living organisms are composed of and how they function. Now you are ready to explore how scientists have used this knowledge to change many aspects of our modern world.
There is a lot of controversy surrounding many areas of biotechnology and some of these topics are often in the news. By creating a presentation about one specific type of biotechnology and teaching your classmates about it, you will have the opportunity to educate yourself and your fellow students about an important current topic. In viewing and responding to your classmates’ presentations you will multiply your awareness of the societal impacts of many different recent biotechnology advances.
FINAL PROJECT ASSIGNMENT
For your Final Project you will create a PowerPoint presentation to teach your classmates about a biotechnology topic. Your presentation must have supportive images and a references page (with at least 5 sources). PowerPoint presentation is preferable and you should aim to produce 20 to 25 slides including some supportive images and a reference slide. (If you are unable to use PowerPoint, you may substitute an essay-style paper of at least 1000 words; in addition, you need to include a reference list.)
