History of Digital Culture Assignment Project
In your #group-collaboration-channel on Slack post and respond to the following:
So, guys, as we didn’t really choose our course, I’d like to give some insight on how I would go about with my Twitter suggestion. Twitter: the modern-day telegraph. Thesis: With its short form and short span of delivery, Twitter is the modern-day telegraph. While reading this book, you have learned that the telegraph delivered messaged all around the world in a short span of time in a confined message. If I go and survey millennials and the Gen-Z with the question “what is a short form of sending messages fast around the world” they will most likely say Twitter. This shows just how much this modern-day social media platform is similar to an invention from almost 200 years ago.
I think we could take Twitter’s story to fame, (history) the benefits
and drawbacks of it, how it affects society and examples of
viral tweets that “changed the world. I think that these
would be 4 topics that we could split.
I wanted to know if you had the chance to explore/think about the Twitter idea in more detail. Do you think the 4 main units that I gave as an example are good? Or do you have other ideas? As the course is coming to an end in like 9 days (times really flies) …. I wanted to know, if you guys would have the possibility to have slack more ongoing now rather than week to week messages? I think this could help us communicate our direction for the project better. Ofc if it’s top busy of a time for you guys, I also understand
‘And here is some feedback for me for the capstone; our will not be able to “explore extensively video games” in your capstone. The “Darfur is Dying” game you mentioned seems like something you should cite. It sounded very interesting and cut directly to your focus here which is an update on a much older question about what (video) games are doing to children. But this game was 15 years ago now! So perhaps your capstone is a revisit of the issues that the game brought up. Did games manufacturers learn anything? Are things “better”?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darfur_is_Dying
