Erik E. Filsinger created the mood survey to measure interpersonal orientation using a liking people scale (LPS). The 15-item instruments measure one characteristic of interpersonal orientation, the general liking of other people. Individuals’ social development and adjustment are heavily influenced by interpersonal orientation.
The hypothesis presented by Filsinger is the degree of liking people affects whether one approaches or avoids social interactions. Therefore, the instrument’s utility is for examining social isolation, shyness, and antisocial behavior. Scores do not seem to significantly differ between males and females, although females score slightly higher than their counterparts.
Cronbach’s alpha was used to estimate the reliability of the LPS and test the internal consistency. The measuring instrument has good internal consistency from two samples of college students. The instrument has mostly good validity. The LPS was revealed to have good concurrent validity in three samples.
I administer the test to my husband for three weeks, twice a week. I started from January 31 to February 18. The participant is a 28-year-old male who works as a software engineer. He used to work in an office, but since the COVID-19 started, he has been working from home with little social interaction.

Over time the score increase. The participant confessed to thinking harder about the questions and what they mean to him. This rationale could justify the change as the participant became more self-aware. The participant admitted never thinking about those types of questions before the first measurement. I also notice he score lower on Monday than Friday. I think on Friday. He was ready for some social interactions after spending all day at home just interacting with his immediate family. On the contrary, he needed to recharge from social interactions on Mondays.
