MOCK OUTBREAK EXERCISE BIOL 2420
Student # 13 presented to the ER on June 20, 2019 with a fever, mild jaundice, headache, and abdominal pain. Several more students from the same educational institution were seen in ERs and clinics with identical indications and symptoms not long after. After testing, it was discovered that the students had hepatitis B. The authorities in charge of health were notified. The outbreak began among a group of teenagers who had gathered for a weekend of wild partying two months prior. Jaundice, lethargy, abdominal pain, nausea, and fever are all symptoms of hepatitis B, a disease spread through bodily fluids. The County Health Department, as well as local health facilities, have stepped in to try to figure out where the illness came from. To stop the outbreak from spreading further, the cause of the infection must be identified.
1st ( 1 pt.) Mention two habits that could cause hepatitis B to spread.
2.- (1 point) Compare and contrast the modes of transmission of hepatitis B and COVID 19 virus (SARS COV 2 virus).
3.- (1 point) Why is a hepatitis B epidemic unlikely?
Following extensive questioning of all of the students involved, the following close contact incidences between the exposed population have been established. A number has been allocated to each pupil. The two numbers in the boxes represented the two students who were in close touch with each other. The boxes are arranged in the same sequence as the close contact events that took place over the two days of exposure.
