To fully answer the discussion topic, we should utilize different levels of thinking in our practices. Traditionally, we have proceeded from a mechanistic viewpoint originating in the industrial revolution.
This approach focuses on structure, hierarchy, and linear thought. It is ok to maintain a mechanistic outlook as a benchmark. But then we must also employ other perspectives or lines of thought as similar benchmarks to define and organize our processes. In other words, we may create our idealized hypothetical business structure to guide process, but how does that structure work holistically against the backdrops of environment and people? What I am indicating in a general sense is that even though a tool is old, it is still ok to use it; however, it should not be your only tool! We must maintain a flexible mindset to adapt to environmental stimuli. Otherwise, we are just a ship stranded at sea.
