PowerPoint Presentation on PESTLE Analysis
The main areas in which hospitals are aiming to improve are access to treatment, quality of care, and cost of care. The cost of health care and the funding of health care results in a national health care expenditure, which must be investigated, as well as payment sources. Quality issues are intrinsically related to health care expenditures, hence quality initiatives are tied to health care spending.
The National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Office of the Actuary, the National Health Statistics Group, the United States Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) publish annual reports on national health expenditures (NHE) and trends (CMS). The expenditures are reported and tracked over time using a standard format that indicates both private and governmental funding sources, as well as the expense items. Annual reports are published two years after the reporting period has ended. In the textbook, see Table 8-1.
NHE accounted for more than 3.0 trillion dollars in 2014, or 17.5 percent of GDP, equating to about $9,523 per person (see Figure 8-1). The cost of health care is influenced by a number of interconnected factors. The aging population, new pharmaceuticals and medical and diagnostic technology, a focus on specialty medicine, huge numbers of uninsured and underinsured people, volume-based reimbursement incentives, and labor intensity are all factors to consider.
Scenario
You receive a call from the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of We Care Hospital, requesting that the two of you collaborate on a health-care spending initiative. The first step is to perform a PESTLE analysis. Investigate current happenings in the macro world using Critical Thinking Skills and Metacognition. Then, using a PESTLE analysis, create a 10-slide narrative in Microsoft PowerPoint. Political, economic, social, technical, legal, and environmental issues are all identified in a PESTLE Analysis.
