Instructions:
One of the most valuable aspects of studying history is the perspective it provides on current events in our world and lives. We can examine current events and compare and contrast them to events from the past to gain insight into them.
For this assignment, you will locate a recent international news article (published within the last year) and relate it to an event, person, or theme discussed in class. Create three distinct connections between the current event and the class and present your ideas in a presentation to the class (consider using Powerpoint, Prezi (), or Google slides ()). The presentation should last at least five minutes and no more than ten. A sample of a Current Event Presentation can be found in the Course Information module.
There are several methods for recording and uploading your presentation; the simplest and most affordable (it’s free!) is SCREENCAST-O-MATIC: https://screencast-o-matic.com/ ()
You can also use the in-Canvas tools to record yourself speaking by clicking on the “Record/Upload Media” icon and then attaching a slide presentation separately. Additionally, YouTube can be used to upload a video. You can be as creative as you want with the presentation as long as we can hear you clearly and see some slides relaying the presentation’s key points.
Your presentation should incorporate the following:
1. The article’s title, publication date, and author.
2. A condensed version of the article.
– What drew you to this particular event? What about it intrigues or strikes you?
3. Analysis of how the current event relates to a specific topic covered in class.
– Because we’re relating it to a theme, person, or event, provide a brief overview of that. After that, you can conduct a compare/contrast analysis.
