· Scroll down and look through the list of essays
· Then, pick one you want to write about (some of the links do not work, unfortunately; however–at least this is a list that is free to you, instead of buying a book:

In 600 to 750 words, discuss the following:
1. Write about why you recommend reading this essay and which qualities you enjoyed. Discuss what conflicts were interesting to you.
2. Make sure you place the title of the essay in your response, like this…After reading “The Death of the Moth” I discovered that I enjoyed….
3. Once you select multiple pieces of evidence (make sure to use examples from the essay you picked)
4. Use the evidence to show use qualities of the essay you connected with, and discuss the conflicts in the essay that made it interesting.
You have probably formed an opinion on it and what it means to you. In this course, it is fine if you do not like a story or reading provided for you.
What is important is for you to be able to use strong reasoning, and to build on the analytical skills you gained in Composition 1.
· You need to form a thesis statement.
· If you forgot what Conflict is, or you forgot how to write a thesis or provide evidence, use the search bar on this site to find help:
· Search // Purdue College of Liberal Arts
· Your thesis statement should come from your opinion, and it should be controversial, and it should guide your paper. The evidence you use to support your thesis, should be well-planned and organized.
Please do not use any outside sources—even if you change the wording from a site like Sparknotes etc. you are still stealing ideas, and that is plagiarism. I will check for outside source use; so please do not do it because if you do, you will fail the assignment, and I will report academic misconduct to the dean. No sources should be used for this response. Please use your minds.
Here is your assignment:
Your response will be formatted in MLA style, typed, and double spaced.
· Each of your paragraph topic sentences should discuss a subtopic of your main theme that you describe in your thesis statement.
You will want to provide specific evidence of such topics from the essay. Remember, I do not want to read summaries. I want to read analytical papers.
I do not want to read any work that has been influenced by outside sources or on the web. We will incorporate research later in the course.
I will use the rubric attached to this assignment to grade your papers.
