Directions:
You are a politician running for office, let’s say City Councilman/Councilwoman. Pick another office, if you prefer. In a well written, 3 – 4 page paper describe how you would utilize 4 or 5 of the Social Marketing (SM) tools we have covered to date to in your campaign. These could include Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube videos, etc. Describe how you would use them specifically and strategically. Would they be for informational purposes for your existing followers, to garner new followers, etc.?
One of the things that is key for businesses to do before creating and executing an SM program is to identify their target markets (TM’s). Once they have done that, they must select those media venues that would most likely be utilized and/or best resonate with these markets. The same principal applies here. So, identify your target markets by demographic and/or issue; different demographics have different concerns that drive their general interests and voting behaviors. Once you are comfortable with your TM’s, select the appropriate SM venues you believe would help you best connect with each of your identified TM’s; different demographics likely prefer different SM platforms, and even when two or more TM’s use the same platform, their usage and motivations may vary. How would you apply the various SM venues to your identified TM’s? What general kind of content would you use in each case? What, in all cases, are your objectives? As noted earlier, is it to get new ‘customers/voters’, to communicate with, and/or inform, existing followers?
