SPC 3602 Civic Persuasive Appeals Discussion
After reading your assigned content and discussing it with your group each member is to develop 2 discussion questions. You are to submit these questions online at least 1 hour prior to class on the day of your discussion leadership. If you end up editing your questions after submission simply provide me a hard copy after class. A late submission will result in a decreased score.
You will then lead a class discussion on the reading lasting no less than 30 minutes. You do not have to get through all of your questions but if you run out your grade will be impacted (consideration will be made based on class member participation but come prepared).
Here is a guide for writing discussion questions and leading discussions (and a sample grade sheet). Make sure to look it over.
Notes: The goal of discussion questions is not to review content; it is to make people think about content in a new way and or apply it differently. Don’t limit yourself to the content provided, go beyond. Here are some tips1. Think about other contexts the content could be applied to.2. Consider doing extra research on a topic or theory in order to push beyond provided content.3.
Don’t be afraid to challenge what you are given, play the devil’s advocate.4. Think about other classes you are taking and how this material might relate.5. What questions do you have? Maybe someone in class could fill a hole or the professor could.6. Think about your audience. What are their life experiences or are there specific people you think might bring unique perspectives (tell them in advance).7. Don’t be afraid to develop a hypothetical scenario8. Are there any video/music clips that we can use this idea/topic to analyze?
(5) Creativity Do questions show a level of out of the box thinking? (5)
