Instructions:
Task Specification A-Class Segregated (available on YouTube). Your objective will be to apply the three theoretical views (symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, and structural functionalism) to racial and ethnic relations after watching the documentary A Class Divided (available on YouTube and posted on CANVAS). Each theory will be defined in terms of race and ethnicity. Following that, you’ll present examples from the movie that apply to the idea. You should include at least two instances (more if feasible) from the film to describe the context for each hypothesis. When applying theories and concepts to the film, be analytical. You will utilize quotes from the movie as examples and to demonstrate your application and analysis in some cases; however, all other information should be written in your own words. Each of you should apply the terms/concepts to particular examples from the movie (do not just note the terms in your definitions of the theories). Organize your paper by beginning with an introductory paragraph about the documentary. oAs it relates to race and ethnicity, you will discuss the three theories (symbolic interactionism, conflict theory, and structural functionalism). The body of your paper will be devoted to analyzing the film using the three sociological theories. You can devote one paragraph to each theory, discussing the issues and examples shown in the film as they pertain to the theory and including other applications (terms, concepts, and data from lecture/textbook) inside these paragraphs. oEach thematic paragraph should include at least two instances from the film. Make sure you state the theory you’re addressing at the beginning of each paragraph and clarify it in your own terms before you start applying it to the movie. Finally, you’ll have a conclusion paragraph (incorporate application from class where necessary). Each document must be typed with 1.5 spacing, a 12 point font, and 1-inch margins. Three pages are required. Writing Tips: Unless you’re paraphrasing a movie, avoid writing in the first or second person (“I” or “you”). Unless you’re referencing a movie, avoid contractions (use “cannot” instead of “can’t”). Make sure your paper is proofread! (Reading your article aloud can sometimes help with clarity.)
