Question 1: In chapter 16 of The Making of the Atomic Bomb contains Niels Bohr running back and forth between the world’s great powers attempting to negotiate for a joint approach on how to control nuclear secrets.
Throughout the book, there have been scenes of scientists conducting various types of diplomacy and interacting with the highest levels of government, sometimes quite successfully. Do you think STEM students today should be encouraged to take at least one class in history or political science just in case they have to interact with government officials?
Question 2: In chapter 17 of The Making of the Atomic Bomb there is a short and extremely confusing description of why Oppenheimer called the first test of the atomic bomb, “Trinity.” Do your best to explain to me why Oppenheimer chose that name for the bomb test.
