When we are still affected by COVID-19, we shall not employ the Cultural Immersion Project/Paper that involves in-person meetings. Instead, we’ll use the Project, which includes a study article with counseling implications.
Paper on Multicultural Issues
Each student will write a paper on a topic related to intercultural counseling. The paper should focus on a topic of your choice that is relevant to the course’s content and can be researched effectively within the research traditions of a current multicultural counseling and therapy issue. Counseling Asian-American students, counseling LGBT students, communicating with parents from diverse cultures, and so on are all possible themes. However, the professor must approve the topic during week 2 regardless of the student’s preference. Your paper should include background information on the topic (drawn from journal articles and your textbook), as well as explanations of how culturally competent counselors may effectively address the counseling issue. Not including the reference page, the presentation should be 4 to 5 pages long.
Your presentation should include the following headings:
a. Issue relevance – Why is this a multicultural issue?
b. Research on the topic of multicultural counseling
b. Considerations for advocacy/needs for social justice d. As a school counselor, how would you address needs?
d. Final thoughts
e. Bibliography
