Asthma Paper Parent Teaching Project
Starting in 2016, use the APA FORMAT 7th Edition with references.
To be followed is a rubric
Project on Parental Education
Teaching parents how to care for their children, especially during illness or after a surgery, is an important part of pediatric nursing. The student will complete a parent teaching assignment to further develop this competence.
Students will be given a topic to research and a developmental stage to focus on. With this knowledge, the student must determine what health education (also known as parent/patient teaching) is required before this virtual patient is discharged. The students will then role-play the teaching session, with the rest of the clinical group observing and a student chosen by the teacher as the “parent.”
The following items must be included in the project:
A one-page paper that discusses the assessment of a parent’s readiness to learn as well as learning impediments.
The most important aspects of home care for the assigned topic
Instruction that is developmentally appropriate-
The parent’s and patient’s developmental levels are reflected in the teaching. (For example, food appropriate for an infant rather than a school-aged child should be included in home care instructions for a newborn.)
a prepared handout for the parent to keep as a reference after the educational session that outlines the “take home” points
A bibliography of no less than three professional magazine publications, one of which is a pediatric piece. The articles must have been published within the last five years. It is expected that references be formatted in the APA style.
A rational, transparent, and imaginative development for an eighth-grade learner
