Final Project Organizational Issues
Direct contact or personal experience are good ways to get knowledge from people in an organization. Data from the media, the organization’s literature, and other secondary sources can be used to complement this information. You should choose two recent problems to examine (i.e., this should not be a historical narrative of a problem and the company’s response). Applying the concepts from the course will help you focus your analysis. While it is okay to employ a few concepts from the course, please strive for depth in your application of those topics. Your objective is to identify the mechanisms that are causing the organization’s problems or concerns of concern. You may see a variety of symptoms at first (for example, high turnover, seemingly low morale, low commitment, motivation, and so on), but your goal is to determine the root cause of these symptoms. Also, keep in mind that the early symptoms we think we’re seeing aren’t always what they appear to be.
This assignment has two main objectives:
1. Taking the initiative to make a constructive contribution to an organization is clearly one of the goals of this task.
2. Another key purpose is to provide you the opportunity to learn more about organizational behavior firsthand while also allowing you to apply your critical thinking and reflection abilities to connect your experience with this organization to your learning about organizational behavior theory.
To achieve these general objectives, you must respond to the following questions in the tasks listed below.
a) What are the organization’s concerns or problems (name two problems)?
b) What course topics can be used to figure out why this problem exists?
c) What recommendations do you have for improving organizational performance (develop two recommendations for each concern; total of four recommendations)?
The Report a) Background of the company or organization (including Mission/Vision Statement) (p. 1)
b) What are the organization’s concerns or problems (2)? (Page 1)
c) What course topics can be used to figure out why this problem exists? (p.2)
d) Based on these course principles, what recommendations can you make to improve organizational functioning and address the problem you mentioned (4)? (p.2)
