Herland Analysis Paragraph
In the short story in which Charlotte Perkins Gilman, the author, presents to us of the adventure and wildlife of Herland. As the men sat down and talked to the woman of the land, a conversation sparks about cats and dogs amongst them all.
Im sorry to admit, he told them. That the dog with us is the most diseased of any animal next to man, and as to temper there are always some dogs who bite people. (Chris Gilman). The women were petrified that the men were so
senseless as to the dogs being so vicious, when all they knew was peace.
In Herland, I really wanted to give an analysis on the paragraph that really stuck out to me, about how the women and men talked about the aggressiveness of the dogs and biting the children. To me, this represent how the men are the cause of
a lot of problems in the eyes of the women, with violence rather than the girls in the society represent the cats who are peaceful. The women of Herland stated, “We love our cats that way. They surely are our friends, and helpers, too. You can
see how intelligent and affectionate they are.” To me this is how the women kept their land at peace and tranquility, by not allowing such things as viciousness and terror onto their land.
As soon as the men stepped foot on the land of the women, they instantly captured the men, they did lock them away but cared for them as family. The women are peaceful, and they do not want any violence or crime they do not do crime and
violence. In my opinion, the women are doing the right thing by defending their land, no man has ever stepped foot on. To me the women are protecting their peace their territory, and honestly themselves. What would you do if your land was
only women, and three men suddenly appear? The women came in peace an portrayed no sense of fear or violence towards the men they sought, but the men seeked aggressiveness. Violence become a symptom that was very uncommon to the male society that terry represents, when his sexual advances became more and aggressive.
From the beginning of the novel the men started talking about how they thought it would be when they found the land of the women, they were spiting out more than they could chew. The men were thinking that they were going to be treated
like kings and have all the women just falling to their feet and fighting over them, that was a huge mis perception. conclusion the men were aggressive when it came to Herland and when they got there, they were caught off guard. The women
were peaceful and did not mean any arm and they treated the men with respect.
In conclusion peace and tranquility in a land of the women to me represents the freedom they have amongst themselves, without the terror of the men. The land of the women had no fear until the three men showed up, causing everything but
quietness.
