Description
My final term paper will be on Inborn Errors Of Metabolism. My research question will be “what are the possible effects of inborn errors that effect your metabolism?”
What you will do: You will be writing a term paper about a topic of your
choice regarding Clinical Nutrition. You will pick your topic from the book
chapters 19-29. Your job is to tell the reader more information about your
chosen topic by answering a research question that you come up with.
You can setup the flow of the paper however you would like but you must
include the following information (listed below). Journal articles are used
to support your points in your paper.
This is not a personal opinion or story, you are writing a research paper
based on information from the book backed up by your own research.
Pick a topic in which you will be working within in your future career. If not,
pick something that interests you.
How you will do it: Papers should be a minimum of 5 pages, have 1″
margins, double-spaced, and have 12-point font. Papers that are messy
or which contain an excessive number (more than one per page) of
spelling and typographical errors will be penalized. Number your pages
and include figures, tables, etc. at the point where they are first
mentioned in the text. Do not put them all together at the end of the
paper.
Where to start: http://libguides.lorainccc.edu/research-process
What to include: You must cite at least four (4) journal articles in your
paper. If you are not sure whether a periodical is a journal (as opposed to
a magazine), check with the instructor or visit your local library. Scientific
American, Discovery, etc. may be good sources for ideas for your paper
and background information, but they are not journals.
At least two (2) of your references must be primary sources. A
primary source is the first report of an experimental result; it usually
contains a “Methods” section that is sufficiently detailed to allow any
qualified investigator to repeat the experiments on which the
reported results are based. In Science, for example, only the articles
listed in the table of contents under the heading “Reports: are
primary sources.
The form of citation used will be that of APA. This is available online from
any LCCC computer. For guidance, ask the instructor or librarian.
References should be provided for tables and figures that you copy from
your sources, even if you modify them. Your paper will look more
professional if you retype the legends in the paper and number them
consecutively rather than simply photocopying them along with the
tables and figures.
Your paper must include a detailed discussion of at least one significant
experiment or scientific finding. The discussion of the experiment(s) must
include the following points: background, rationale, experimental
approach, data or observations, results, conclusion(s).
