Selling Overseas and Marketing in Another Country: A Research Report This task should be completed independently. Choose a product or service that you presently own (or use), as well as a country with which you are unfamiliar. You are encouraged to choose a unique and original product or service. Assume you’re working in the worldwide sales department of a firm that manufactures and sells the item (or service) you want to make or introduce in the country you’ve chosen. The first step is to study everything you can about the country where you intend to sell your product. For the most up-to-date information, consult almanacs, encyclopedias, the Internet, and library databases, paying special attention to descriptions of the people’ social lives, economic conditions, and cultural traditions that support or discourage the usage of the product or service.
Your Mission Write a five-page report that briefly describes the product or service you plan to market abroad (it must be in a country other than the United States), identifies the types of people who would be interested in the product or service, and explains how the product or service would be transported or introduced into the country (or possibly manufactured if material is available). Your report is due to the company’s chief operational officer, whose name you can make up or look up in a corporate directory. Your judgments (how the product or service will perform in this new environment) and marketing recommendations should be included in the report (steps the company should take immediately and those it should develop later). Financials, an action plan, and a social media strategy are all highly recommended.
The paper must be typed in its entirety. When applicable, use headings throughout the report (please review Pages 430-445 for Parts of a Formal Report). Include a cover page, a Memo of Transmittal, a Table of Contents, an Introduction, a Body, a Summary, Conclusions, Recommendations, and a Bibliography in this report (The Cover, Memo of Transmittal, Table of Contents, and Bibliography will not be counted towards the five page requirement). To create an ordered and non-redundant report, carefully plan the paper. It should be arranged and compiled as a single report, not as a collection of separate portions tied together. A minimum of five sources is required. Please use the APA Format to cite your sources (the Writing Center can offer assistance if you do not know how to do this).
SCHOLARLY, these five sources must be used. Journal articles that have been peer-reviewed should be included.
