SOC100 Presentation of Self-Identity and Socialization
To help with this project, read the Reading Guide: Socialization and Social Institutions for information on roles, statuses, and social institutions.
Roles and statuses, which are reinforced by societal systems and impact our personal experiences, help us establish a sense of self. Roles are daily patterns of conduct that represent our social standing, such as parent, worker, daughter/son,
student, neighbor, and so on. Each of these roles corresponds to a distinct status.
The activities of organizations and individuals in society are shaped by social institutions, which are systems and structures. Family, education, and religion are all examples of social institutions that have a micro-level impact on people’s lives.
Complete the Socialization and Self-Identity Presentation Template, which includes a 10-slide presentation on socialization and its impact on our self-identities. The speaker notes portion of each slide, which may be reached by choosing the
View tab at the top, then clicking Notes, contains instructions for what to add. As you progress through the presentation template, you’ll replace the instructions in the speaker notes section with actual speaker notessentences that represent what you’d say about each slide if you were giving the presentation live.
