All 50 states, the District of Columbia, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the Virgin Islands have nursing boards. It’s possible that similar entities exist for different locations. BONs’ aim is to protect the public by enforcing nursing practice regulations. BONs are state/region regulations for nurses that, among other things, define the scope of nursing practice in that state/region and lay out the conditions for licensure.
Comparing regulations from different state/regional nursing boards can be a useful activity. This can assist communicate information that could be valuable if a state or region changes in the future. Furthermore, nurses may be required to have licenses in multiple states or areas.

Compare and contrast the board of nursing regulations for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in Illinois with those in two other states/regions (New York & California States).
